German delegation meets with executives and affiliates of CdS

In recent days Dr. Jörg Thomaier, Chief IP Counsel of the Bayer Group, the Ambassador of Germany in Panama, Karl-Otto König, and the Consul of Germany, visited the City of Knowledge to hold a meeting with executives and affiliates of the CdS.

The City of Knowledge Foundation invited several clients of scientific research companies located on campus to participate in the meeting. Representatives of USF Health, Absorption Systems, IPIC, INDICASAT and Nano Dispersions were present to share knowledge with the German delegation.

Besides the meeting, the occasion was propitious for the German delegation to see how the City of Knowledge merges the academic, scientific, technological, cultural and business components in a unique and sustainable space.

Dr. Jörg Thomaier studied Chemistry in Heidelberg, Freiburg, Utrecht (NL) and at the ETH Zurich (CH). After receiving his Ph.D. in 1996, he joined Bayer 1997 as a trainee in the Patent Department in Leverkusen. After some specific legal training he passed the so called EQE at the European Patent Office in 2001 to become a qualified European Patent Attorney.

While starting in 1997 within the CropScience group, he later served as a member of the Animal Health team and finally moved into the MaterialScience part of the Patent Department. In 2004 he took over the role as Chief Patent Counsel at Bayer Business Services GmbH establishing a Patent Department within Bayer Business Services GmbH subsequently heading such function. In 2006 he transferred to Bayer Healthcare AG to become Head of Patents of said Subgroup. In 2010 he again changed role and joined Bayer AG as Head of IP of the group, responsible for all IP Matters – Patents, Trademarks, Licenses and all related matters  - within the Bayer Group.

Finally in 2012 Thomaier restructured the Germany based IP Community by establishing the Bayer IP GmbH, encompassing all IP Functions in Germany. With the Go Live of said entity in April 2012 he additionally took on the role as the Managing Director of Bayer IP GmbH.
