CIDES General Assembly at CdS

The General Assembly of the International Center for Sustainable Development (CIDES) of the City of Knowledge was held on July 6 at the Convention Center, in order to present its members with a management report of the last two years. Also, issues were treated related to strengthening the governing (General Assembly, Board of Directors and Executive Management) and advisory bodies (Advisory Committee, Technical and Scientific Committee and Cooperative Group).

The Assembly was chaired by the Executive President of the City of Knowledge Foundation, Jorge Arosemena, who noted that the CIDES was a work of Dr. Rodrigo Tarté R.I.P., who was the ideological creator of the center.

For its part, the Executive Director of CIDES, Dr. Juan Moreno, said that "this for me is a big challenge, especially for the duty we feel towards the person who founded the CIDES, Dr. Rodrigo Tarté, one of the greatest scientists and thinkers in the history of Panama". Subsequently, Dr. Moreno presented a report which explained the conventional model of the economy, nature and purpose of the CIDES, fundamental principles, areas of action, its history, expanding resource base, budget and portfolio of new projects.

CIDES currently has 47 active members from academic and scientific organizations, businesses, international organizations, governmental and non-governmental organizations such as the Panama Canal Authority, Ministry of Environment, National Secretariat of Science and Technology (SENACYT), Ministry of Agricultural Development, Institute of Agricultural Research (IDIAP), the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Institute of Scientific Research and High Technology Services (INDICASAT), the Albatros Media Foundation, RAMSAR Regional Center, CONAMA Foundation, Natura Foundation, National Association for the Conservation of Nature (Ancon) and Promotora San Lorenzo, among others.
