The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the United Nations system's designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action.
The Latin America and the Caribbean Office located in Panama City works closely with the 33 countries of the region - including 16 small island developing States, with a population of about 588 million people. The office works to serve the needs of the region and its activities are integrated into the work programs approved by the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA).
The UN Environment/Latin America and the Caribbean Office/Administration Unit Internship is for 6 months. The Internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will support the following activities:
Under the direct supervision of the Administrative Officer of the UN Environment-Latin America and the Caribbean Office, the intern will work within a dynamic team and be highly involved in day-to-day activities.
The intern will be given responsibilities that will assist their learning, and also their experience in data gathering/management/reporting and practical aspects of administrative processes in a large and complex organization.
Under the supervision of the Administrative Officer and Administrative Assistant, and within delegated authority, the interns will assist in the following duties:
Interact with staff, consultants and office assistants to prepare paperwork for protocol processes.
Process online and offline protocol cases with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Visas, Tax Exceptions, Driving Licenses, International Mission IDs, etc. as required, and within needed timeframes. Keep track of the process and follow up with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and programme officers.
Build a database of protocol expiration dates for the Regional Office, that will help anticipate future expirations and processes needed.
When requested, support vendor registration, accounts payable, hiring of consultant's and several other general administrative processes as needed.

- Considering the focus of the internship, specific training and/or knowledge in administration, public relations, international affairs and related areas will be an asset.
Excellent writing and communication skills in English and Spanish are required. Working knowledge of other UN official languages is desirable.
As a unit of the United Nations Environment Programme, UNEP-ROLAC is not able to provide any remuneration for internships.
