Metropolitan School of Panama

The Metropolitan School of Panama is one of Panama’s leading educational institutions. Founded in 2011, the MET offers a world-class academic program for students in Early Childhood 3 through 12th grade. With more than 800 students hailing from 40 different nationalities and 120 faculty members that boast an impressive range of international teaching experience, the school is enriched by the wealth of its diverse and multicultural community.

The school was founded by a group of six families, all parents, who joined efforts to create the school they always dreamed of. An international school of excellence, staffed with the best faculty, with small class sizes, and where each child would feel included, happy, motivated and inspired to learn. A school with an integral curriculum that combines the rigors of academics with arts, technology, sports, social awareness, and nutritional well-being. The MET seeks to prepare its students to face the challenges of an increasingly competitive and changing future and form citizens committed with the community that surrounds them and who will contribute to building a sustainable and harmonious world.

In September 2017, the Metropolitan School of Panama joined Nord Anglia Education, the world's leading premium schools organization, uniting with 45 other outstanding schools in 17 countries around the world. Nord Anglia’s global family of schools share a common commitment and philosophy that there is no limit to what students can achieve. Nord Anglia schools offer the highest quality education that is focused on developing the whole child. Joining Nord Anglia allows the MET participate in Nord Anglia’s premium collaborations with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), The Juilliard School and King's College London. These programs will not only enhance learning opportunities for students in the performing arts and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math), they will also offer teachers a unique opportunity for professional development.

Within the first three years, the MET made an extraordinary achievement, earning status as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, a community of international schools with the reputation of maintaining the highest standards of education. In its fourth year, the MET becomes the first and only school in Panama and Central America to offer the full IB Continuum, authorized to offer the IB Primary Years Program (PYP), Middle Years Program (MYP) and Diploma Program (DP). Up to this moment, there are only 284 schools in the world authorized to offer the IB Continuum, positioning the MET within an elite group of schools worldwide.

The IB is a world acclaimed academic program with innovative teaching methodologies that allows the development of intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills necessary to learn, work and succeed in a rapidly globalizing world. The IB curriculum has been so successful, that it is considered a point of reference for excellence by the best universities worldwide.

Committed to developing the whole child, the MET integrates the rigors of the IB and Panamanian curricula with a comprehensive visual and performing arts program, Panamanian culture, competitive athletics, cutting edge technology and the promotion of values and civic responsibility.

The MET is an IB World School, the only school in Central America authorized to offer the IB Continuum of Programs. The school is also accredited by the Panamanian Ministry of Education (MEDUCA) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). The MET is also member of the Council of International Schools (CIS), the European Council of International Schools (ECIS), the Panamanian Association of Internationally Minded Schools (PAIS) and the Association of American Schools in South America (AASSA).

Membership to these organizations allows the Metropolitan School of Panama to be a part of a global and local network of like-minded institutions. These partnerships offer the school support and access to new educational practices, opportunities for recruiting highly qualified staff, opportunities for our students to engage in cultural and educational exchanges with students from other international schools around the world, and provide our community with a connection to top international universities.
