Celebration of the International Day for Disaster Reduction
The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) held the "Resilience Panel" to celebrate International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR), at the United Nations House inside the City of Knowledge.
"Home Safe Home" is the motto of the International Day for Disaster Reduction 2017. The theme of the IDDR is part of the Sendai Seven campaign, which promotes the seven goals of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, adopted in Sendai, Japan in March 2015. 2017 specifically promotes Goal (b) Reduce significantly the number of people affected globally by 2030, and achieve a reduction of the world average per 100,000 people in the 2020-2030 decade regarding the 2005-2015 period.
The International Day for Disaster Reduction is a day to celebrate how individuals and communities are reducing their risk in the face of disasters and raising awareness of the importance of DRR. This is also a day to urge all citizens and governments to become involved in efforts to establish communities and nations that are more resilient in the face of disasters.
Information on the Sendai Seven campaign, activities at the regional level and information on this year's theme and disaster risk reduction can be found on the DIRD website.
