The Metropolitan School of Panama has launched the Model United Nations (MUN) as a learning opportunity for middle school students. MUN is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participants about current events, topics in international relations, diplomacy and the United Nations agenda.
MUN promotes student interest in international relations and related subjects, increases the capacity for students to engage in problem solving, conflict resolution, research skills, and communication skills. MUN not only involves students in the study and discussion of global issues, but also encourages the development of skills useful throughout their lives. Many of today's leaders in law, government, business and the arts participated in MUN during their academic careers.
The MET MUN team participated in the 20th PANAMUN International Conference on October 24 to 26, 2012 in Panama City. The students had a successful conference and lobbied for the first time with experienced delegates. They were commended on their high level of participation in the debates and professional conduct.
The MET MUN team will participate in The 8th Annual Global Classrooms International Middle School Model UN Conference, sponsored by the United Nations Association of the United States of America's Global Classrooms Program, from April 11 to 13, 2013, in New York City.
To raise funds for travel, the MET MUN Team will host its 1st Annual Silent Auction to be held at the City of Knowledge Convention Center on March 7th, 2013. The event will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (bidding will end at 8:30 p.m.). We invite you to participate at this event and help support student participation. You may do so by purchasing a ticket for the event. Tickets are at $20.00 in advance, or $30.00 at the event. You may also wish to contribute with an item, service or gift certificate to auction.
